Custom Cams

Polgain manufactures and regrinds a wide variety of cam types, including:

Each cam is produced with the required accuracy, profile, and surface finish to meet operational needs. We work from drawings, CAD data, or supplied samples, and where required, can reverse engineer worn components to create accurate replacements.

Cam Grinding

Our CNC machining centres, combined with Adcole Cam Contour Measuring Machines, allow us to maintain extremely tight tolerances. Profile accuracy is verified through deviation graphs and phasing angle reports, ensuring consistency from prototype through to full production. 

Our advanced capabilities allow us to grind plate cam profiles up to 1300mm in diameter and barrel cams up to 900mm in diameter, ensuring unmatched accuracy and performance.

Camshaft Design and Manufacturing

Polgain has extensive capability in the manufacture and refurbishment of camshafts, from small motorcycle components through to large marine diesel camshafts.

Using our CNC Landis camshaft grinding machines, we can produce camshafts up to 1,800mm in length with a minimum inverse radius of 70mm. Additional features such as polygons, flats, and eccentrics can also be generated where required.

All camshafts are inspected using our Adcole contour measuring machines to verify profile geometry, alignment, and tolerances. This data can be provided to customers as part of a detailed inspection report.

Manufacturing Process

  • Material selection – chosen to match strength, durability, and heat treatment requirements.
  • CNC machining – precision turning and milling using Haas CNC equipment.
  • Heat treatment – to achieve hardness and wear resistance.
  • Grinding and finishing – using CNC Landis grinders and Schiess Kopp CNC profile grinding machines.
  • Inspection – full CMM and Adcole profile measurement with digital reporting available.
